Installation Notes

Fluoroplastic tubing Connection Methods

Common connection methods include heat fusion welding (e.g., PFA pipes), compression fittings (suitable for thin-walled pipes), and flange connections.

Heat fusion welding provides strong sealing and is suitable for high-purity, high-pressure systems;

Compression fittings are easy to install and suitable for laboratories or small pipelines;

Flange connections are easy to disassemble and maintain, and are commonly used in large equipment or scenarios requiring frequent maintenance.

Preventing Leaks During Installation

Ensure the pipe ends are smooth and free of burrs before installation;

Heat fusion welding requires strict control of temperature (380°C–400°C) and pressure;

Socket welding connections must be tightened to the standard torque (e.g., φ10mm pipe nut torque approximately 8–10 N·m);

Flange connections must use compatible sealing gaskets (e.g., PTFE or PFA material).

FAQ

Q: 1. How do fluoropolymer tubing meet sterile requirements in the pharmaceutical industry?

A: Their surface roughness is Ra < 0.2 μm, making them resistant to contaminant adhesion. They can withstand 121°C moist heat sterilization (30 minutes) or 134°C overheated water sterilization, and do not absorb pharmaceutical solutions, effectively preventing cross-contamination during pharmaceutical production and complying with GMP standards.

Q: 2. How should fluoroplastic tubes be cleaned?

A: It can be rinsed with pure water, ethanol, or specialized cleaning agents. Avoid using sharp tools like steel wool to scrape the surface. If ultrasonic cleaning is required, control the power (≤300W) and time (≤10 minutes) to prevent damage to the tubing walls.

Q: 3. Why is fluoroplastic tubing superior to stainless steel tubing in the semiconductor industry?

A: Ultra-low leaching: Metal ion (Na⁺, K⁺, etc.) leaching levels <0.01 ppb, preventing wafer contamination.
Anti-static: Can be modified with carbon nanotubes, with surface resistance controllable between 10⁶ and 10⁹ Ω, preventing particle adhesion.
Resistant to high-purity chemicals: Such as hydrofluoric acid, SC1/SC2 cleaning solutions (stainless steel is prone to corrosion).

Q: 4. How to detect micro-cracks on the inner wall of fluoropolymer tube?

A: Industrial endoscope: Pipes with a diameter ≥3 mm can be inspected using a 0.5 mm probe.
Pressure decay method: Pressurize to 1.5 times the working pressure, maintain pressure for 5 minutes; if the pressure drop exceeds 5%, replacement is required.

Q: 5 Can fluoroplastic tube be used for hydrofluoric acid transportation?

A: Material selection: PFA or PTFE can withstand 40% hydrofluoric acid (at 20°C), but FEP is only suitable for low concentrations (<10%).
Joint considerations: FFKM seals must be used to avoid swelling of fluorinated silicone rubber.

Q: 6. How are food-grade fluoropolymer hose certified?

A: Compliance standards: Must pass FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 (PTFE/PFA) or EU 10/2011 food contact material testing.
Migration testing: Soak in 50% ethanol at 40°C for 10 days; non-volatile residues must be <0.1 mg/dm².

Q: 7. How is the bending radius of fluoroplastic hose calculated?

A: Minimum bending radius: PFA tubing requires a radius of at least 5 times the outer diameter (e.g., a Φ10 mm tube requires a radius of ≥50 mm), otherwise it may collapse.
Heat forming assistance: Heating with a heat gun to 200°C can reduce springback (PFA/FEP).
